An abundance of wildlife and great scenery in Bulgaria.
The Geshaview holiday village is located in the heart of Bulgaria and is surrounded by natural countryside and places of interest for the naturalist who wants to study the bio-diversity of Bulgaria. Geshaview is a short distance from the Stara Planina mountain range and the nature reserve of the Central Balkan National Park.
Bulgaria has three National Parks –
• The Pirin National Park
• Rila National Park
• Central Balkan National Park.
The National Parks of Bulgaria have a total area of 193,049 hectares and comprise more than one-third of all protected areas in Bulgaria. The Pirin National Park, Rila National Park and Central Balkan National Park contain some of Europe’s remaining, outstanding, wild regions and are amongst the largest and most valuable protected areas in Europe.
The National Parks of Bulgaria are refuges for many rare plants and animals of national and global significance. In the Bulgarian National Parks, unique samples of natural habitats and elements of ecosystems are preserved within reserves.
The Bulgarian National Parks also include rivers, more than 300 lakes, natural landmarks, numerous waterfalls, and exceptional landscapes.
Flora
Bulgaria is ranked fifth in Europe because of the diversity of plants - 3,567 species - found within its territory. Two-thirds of all plant species are represented within the National Parks in Bulgaria.
Fauna
In Bulgaria there are more animal species than any other European country. The three National Parks contain habitats and natural surroundings vital for the survival of many of these species.
Bulgaria’s National Parks are home to more than 4,000 invertebrate species, a quarter of which are of high conservation significance.
Over 300 vertebrates reside in Rila National Park, Pirin National Park and Central Balkan National Park. Some of the most significant populations of large mammals in Bulgaria and Europe live here. These include the Balkan chamois, brown bear, wolf, and red deer. Twenty-five species of smaller mammals also live in Bulgarian National Park territory.
Forests
The natural forest ecosystems in Bulgaria’s National Parks are unequaled in Europe. National Park forests are great natural air filters, oxygen producers and water conservers. They provide habitat for countless species of wild plants and animals.
